Driving an automatic car is sometimes seen as not real driving, a bit of a cop out if you like…..but why? Yes it is true that if you pass your driving test in an automatic car you can only drive an automatic car, but is that really such a problem? A few years ago it would have probably cost you more in fuel and insurance and even today, parts such as brakes may wear quicker than on a manual car, but then there’s no manual clutch to wear out!
You would probably be better off thinking about the positives that driving an automatic car on today’s roads and in today’s traffic may bring. Such as more control by keeping your hands on the steering wheel and not having to change gear, the fact that the car changes gear automatically means you don’t have to chose your next gear, so when approaching junctions you have more time to assess the situation as there is less work to do. The list of advantages in driving an automatic car is at least as long and probably longer than the disadvantages, but the decision has to be yours. If you are finding it difficult to make the decision or would like further information on whether you should drive an automatic or manual car please contact EXCEL on 01243 816655 or using our e-mail: exceldriving@exceldriving.co.uk
